Who is a Jew / follower of Jewish religion


A Definition for the jewish religion is not simple. It is made up of many different parts:
beliefs concerning God, the universe, and humanity; customs and ceremonies.

A Jew may share in the beliefs of Judaism about God and yet not feel the need to attend synagogue.
A Jew may feel proud of the Jewish heritage and yet not agree with many judaisms interpretations that try to describe that heritage.
A Jew may even feel a part of the Jewish people and not believe in God
.The question of who should be considered a Jew is still debated within judaisms fractions.


What is the aim of Judaism

to follow the Rambam's thirteen principles of faith
to know Moses was the greatest prophet, leader and teacher
to belief in the eventual coming of the moshiach (the anointed one)
belief in an agreement between God and the people of Israel expressed through God’s laws for the proper use of the universe



13 Principles of Judaism Faith

1- God exists
2- God is one and unique
3- God is incorporeal
4- God is eternal
5- Prayer is to be directed to God alone and to no other
6- The words of the prophets are true
7- Moses's prophecies are true, and Moses was the greatest of the prophets
8- The Written Torah (first 5 books of the Bible) and Oral Torah (teachings now contained in the Talmud and other writings) were given to Moses
9- There will be no other Torah
10- God knows the thoughts and deeds of men
11- God will reward the good and punish the wicked
12- The Messiah will come
13- The dead will be resurrected



What is the emphasis of Judaism

focuses on relationships: the relationship between God and mankind
focuses on relationship between God and the Jewish nation
focuses on relationship between the Jewish nation and the land of Israel
focuses on relationship between human beings



What Judaism is not:

Judaisms /Judaism has no dogma
no formal set of beliefs that one must hold to be a Jew
actions are more important than beliefs, although there is belief system within Judaism
does not focus much on abstract cosmological concepts
